We are a partner resource for SUU Faculty and Staff, and aim to assist and enhance curriculum and programming by promoting an experiential-based experience for students and SUU Community members alike.

SUU Outdoors History

  • Challenge Course built over by football stadium.
  • Rental Shop starts in Sharwan Smith Student Center; rents a few tents, sleeping bags, snowshoes, and headlamps.
  • First SUU trip heads outside: hiking in Cedar Breaks.
  • Rock Climbing Wall is built in the PE Building.
  • Rental Shop moved to larger location in Student Center.
  • Many students are impacted by growing programming at SUU Outdoors to pursue the outdoors more.
  • SUU enters the Outdoor Nation Campus Challenge (as a prank on a student) and wins.
  • The Garage is added as a space for rental.
  • SUU enters the next Outdoor Nation Campus Challenge (not as a prank) and handedly beats the other universities involved; solidifying SUU as the 'Most outdoorsy school in the nation."
  • Basecamp in the Sharwan Smith Center is established as the HUB for SUU Outdoors.
  • The Rappel Station is built in the PE Building.
  • The FEMALE Series starts to empower women outdoor leaders. 
  • San Juan Rafting programs begins.
  • T-Bird Bikes begins.
