Short-Term
Short-term Programs generally take place over the summer, spring, or winter breaks. All short-term programs are led by an SUU faculty or staff member. Summer programs range from about 2-4 weeks long and offer 3-6 course credits. Non-credit bearing programs, called Cultural Immersions, usually are about 1 week in length.
Programs change year to year, going to new locations and focusing on different areas of study (i.e. Communication in Fiji and Tonga, Psychology in Greece, etc.).
Requirements:
- 2.5 minimun GPA
- 3 letters of recommendation - at least 2 academic (required through online application)

Additional Short-Term Info
- After applying, students will be charged a $300 application fee on their SUU account. That $300 is a deposit toward the total program fee.
- Non-student participants (such as spouses of students) will be charged an additional $200 non-student administrative fee in addition to the prgram fee if accepted into the short-term study abroad.
- Short-term programs may not be used to help a student achieve full-time student status over the summer semester and are not eligible for tuition-based financial aid as FAFSA. Other scholarships may still be applicable.
- Most program fees do not include the cost of airfare or meals. Use the Short-Term Study Abroad Cost Estimator as a tool to financially prepare to study abroad.
- Refund Policy: After the application deadline has passed and a student has been accepted into their program. the remainder of the program fe will be charged to their SUU account. Should a student choose to withdraw from their progrm after this point, the application fee and any portion of the program fee that has already been spent on their behalf will remain charged to their SUU account.
- After being accepted into a program. students will be emailed information about how to find and submit all pre-departure documents such as travel authorizations and emergency contact forms. Information regarding how to apply for scholarships will be distributed then as well.

Most of our SUU faculty-led short-term programs run in May and June, and the list of upcoming programs is usually available in mid-October. You can view all of our currently available programs in the Program Directory.
Yes. However, students taking part in an SUU short-term study abroad program do not need to purchase international insurance individually because the cost of international insurance is included in the study abroad program fee.
Semester Exchange
Semester exchange programs give SUU students the opportunity to study abroad at one of our 60+ partner universities around the world for a semester or a full year. While abroad, students take a full-time load of courses that can transfer back to SUU and help them toward their degree. Students on exchange only pay their typical SUU tuition.
A few of SUU's partner schools are marked as "Non-Exchange". "Non-Exchange" means students will be responsible for paying the host school's tuition rather than SUU's. Questions about exchange and non-exchange schools can be directed to Zoe Prettyman

Semester Exchange Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. The Office of Learning Abroad recommends that travelers purchase the insurance policy from CISI that has been negotiated for SUU travelers. Those taking part in a short-term program through the OLA do not need to purchase international insurance personally as the cost of international insurance is included in the advertised program fee.

National Student Exchange
National Student Exchange (NSE) is a semester or year-long study abroad program that takes place in Canada, the United States, or U.S. territories. Choose from nearly 200 schools. Pay the host school's resident tuition or SUU tuition only and apply your financial aid and schoalrships just as if you were taking classes at SUU.

How to Apply
- Fill out the Aplication Form.
- Fill out the Study Statement to include with your application.
- Pay the Application Fee (non-refundable after the application is submitted).
- (For International students only) fill out the International Student Exchange Form.
After you're accepted, you'll work with your Academic Advisor to fill out a Learning Agreement.
Deadlines
The application deadline for the following academic year (Fall and Spring) is February 28. Some schools will accept students after the deadline.
National Student Exchange Frequently Asked Questions
Students must pay a one-time application fee of $185. This application fee is not refundable once your application is turned in to the SUU NSE Coordinator. Students must also pay a $185 concurrent enrollment fee for each semester on exchange. Housing, meals, books, insurance, etc, is paid at the host school. Students accepted on Plan A also pay host school resident tuition at the host school. Plan B resident students pay SUU resident tuition to the SUU Office of International Programs for the incoming Plan B students. Plan B non-resident and international students will pay SUU Academic Programs Abroad SUU non-resident tuition and fees.
An important word about Plan B: A student who makes himself available on Plan B , and is accepted by the host school on Plan B, is obligated to pay the SUU Office of Study Abroad Programs Abroad SUU resident or non-resident tuition (whichever appropriate) even if the student withdraws from the exchange (except in the case of serious illness). It is important to understand that SUU does not provide funds to pay SUU tuition for incoming Plan B students, so the money is provided by outbound SUU Plan B students leaving on exchange.
