While college can create a busy schedule, it's still essential for students to make time to care for themselves. As Southern Utah University is committed to aiding students in their endeavors, SUU provides a wide variety of resources to support T-birds' wellness, including support for mental, physical, financial, and educational health.
Mental Health
SUU's Community Counseling and Assessment Clinic provides services to adults, children, and families in Iron County and beyond. Their high-quality assessment and therapy services are provided at a low cost for community members.
Counseling and Psychological Services, or CAPS, can provide a variety of helpful resources to help T-birds manage their stress in order to achieve their goals and reach their full potential. They are staffed with experienced licensed mental health professionals, such as psychologists, social workers, and mental health counselors. Their services range from individual counseling, couples counseling, group counseling, workshops, and more. They also provide a quick guide to overall mental health resources.
Through daily brain exercises, SUU's Combat Brain Training program can help T-birds improve their mental health. Whether it's making decisions quickly or improving memory, this program has helped over 11,000 people go above and beyond.
The Student Outreach and Support Office, or SOS office, provides support, non-clinical interventions, advocacy, and referrals for T-birds who are struggling with challenges in their life. Their team helps students navigate campus and community resources, develop action plans for success, and overcome obstacles.
Physical Health
The Student Health Clinic provides free medical care to students while they are attending SUU, such as annual physicals, basic medical exams, non-emergency illness or injury, and more. It is located at the Bennion Building, Suite 111, and operates from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on weekdays.
The Disability Resource Center is dedicated to helping all students participate in SUU's programs and have a fulfilling campus experience, regardless of their abilities. They can provide reasonable accommodations, peer mentoring, and other aid.
SUU's Wellness Center has many resources for T-birds in need, such as a self-care station with menstrual products, first aid supplies, personal hygiene, and other necessary products students may need. There is also a wellness room, an RX drop box, and biofeedback that students may use.
The Campus Recreation and Wellness program has many activities that T-birds may participate in, such as fitness classes and intramural sports. It also includes an aquatic center, fitness center, and more that allow students to exercise.
Financial Wellness
The Financial Wellness team provides T-birds with the financial tools they need to succeed in their academics. They can assist students with budgeting, completing FAFSA, navigating debt, and more.
The HOPE Pantry, also known as Helping Our People Eat, provides essential food and toiletry items to T-birds. Along with these products, it can provide necessary education on food budgeting, meal planning, and cooking skills, as well as cultivating opportunities for service and community engagement. It is accessible by appointment.
Educational Wellness
The Nest is SUU's student help center. T-Birds can find answers to their questions, a place to do homework, and any other help they may need at the Nest. Students can also receive guidance from aces and peer-mentors.
If a student is struggling with their education, they can find assistance at the Tutoring Center and Writing Center. The Tutoring Center helps t-birds deepen their understanding of course material and hone their study skills. Tutoring can consist of in-person, online, individual, or group sessions. The Writing Center consults t-birds on any aspects of the writing process, regardless of what skill or confidence level the student may be on. The staff at both the Tutoring Center and Writing Center are always willing to help t-birds with their educational needs.
The Office of Academic Success also provides Academic Coaching for students who may need extra assistance.
Students need to care for their wellness, and SUU is here to help them with it. There are many resources at SUU to help students stay healthy throughout their college career so they can continue to pursue their goals and soar higher than ever. T-birds can reach out to any of the offices mentioned here to receive the help they need.
