Welcome to Southern Utah University, New Hire!
You're joining an institution that is people centric, purpose driven, and place empowered! You'll learn more as you start working, but please use this page as a resource to help familiarize yourself with general HR information and organizational structure.
Whether this is your first time at SUU or a returning T-Bird, we are thrilled to have you as part of our community!
Full-Time Staff and Faculty Onboarding
You will have a benefits onboarding zoom meeting generally on your first day that will cover the different benefits that SUU has to offer. You will receive an email with details on that shortly before you start so that you can attend.
There is also an all-day new hire orientation each month that you are encouraged to attend. The date for that is usually the 4th Wednesday of the month, but please double check on the SUU Events calendar. This meeting includes information about the history and mission of the University, connection with different departments and other new hires, and tools to help you be successful in your position. You will be invited to that meeting by the HR office as well.
Please complete your onboarding forms as early as you can. There are three sections: personal information, employment information, and benefits. The personal and employment sections need to be completed before your email will be activated and your department can start requesting access for you, so the sooner you do those sections the better. The benefits section can be completed on your first day after the benefits onboarding meeting.
Your supervisor has an onboarding checklist that they can go over with you.
Part-Time Staff Onboarding
For non-benefit eligible staff please complete your onboarding forms as early as you can. There are two sections, personal information and employment information. You will not be able to start your position until you have completed your onboarding. If you have any questions or cannot access the onboarding forms, please reach out to your supervisor or the human resources office.
Seasonal and Adjunct Onboarding
Work with your supervisor to receive and complete the onboarding documents before you start working.

Training
SUU offers a variety of training opportunities on campus, from required trainings that are completed annually to optional opportunities to help in your position and professional growth.
One training that is required for staff to get access to different systems and to be set up as a supervisor is FERPA. This training is available for you to take as you prepare to start your employment with SUU. SUU requires FERPA training to ensure that employees understand what student information is protected and what is not and when/who we can share that data with. Our students trust SUU to safeguard their sensitive information and we must adhere to that responsibility and keep up with the latest guidance in regards to FERPA.
As you start working at SUU, you will receive further information from your supervisor and others when opportunities are available for professional development.
Additional training resources
- SUU Training Library - The SUU Training Library is where previously recorded trainings from around campus are linked so that you can find and access them.

- Required Training for SUU Employees - Required trainings are to be completed in your first 30 days and also annually. You will have access to them after about a week into your new position.
