Next Steps for Admitted International Students

Pay the SEVIS fee and apply for an F-1 Visa

• Pay the I-901 fee
• Gather the following materials needed for visa interview
  • Form I-20 (or Form DS-2019 for Exchange students)
  • Letter of admission from Southern Utah University
  • Proof of SEVIS I-901 fee payment
    • SUU School Code for SEVIS: DEN214f10106000 (Exchange students use P-1-10073)
  • Evidence of financial ability to meet expenses
  • Evidence of English ability sufficient for course of study
  • Evidence of intent to depart the U.S. after completion of studies
  • Valid passport
• YOU CAN APPLY FOR YOUR VISA UP TO ONE YEAR BEFORE YOUR PROGRAM START DATE

Activate your MySUU Portal and complete course registration

• • Go to the SUU Homepage
  • Select 'MySUU' and click 'Activate Account' or follow login prompt instructions
    • Hint: your T-Number is your student ID number at SUU
    • Meet with your Academic Advisor.

• • • You must be registered for 6 credits as an international student in a graduate program. If you need assistance, contact your program coordinator.
    • Complete your TTQ as soon as possible! This allows your advisor to register you for classes. Classes fill up quickly! Don't wait until the last minute.

Exchange Students: 

• • • Complete your learning agreement.
    • The classes you choose must be approved by your university.
    • You must be registered for a minimum of 12 credits at SUU. All course numbers must be below 5000, unless you are enrolled in an SUU Master's Program.
    • Please list at least 3 extra classes and rank them to indicate which of the classes you are most interested in. Please note that courses are not guaranteed and are based off of availability.

Intensive English Program (IEP) Students: placement testing will be held during International Orientation. This is not required if you provide us with official test results for the TOEFL, IELTS or iTEP.

Student Housing

• Students should secure housing as soon as possible. Housing fills up very quickly. Choose from one of the following options:
  • Campus Housing - Turn in a housing application to internationalarrivals@suu.edu to secure your spot! The Cottages are available for graduate students.
  • Off-Campus Housing - If you prefer to live off-campus, please contact us at internationalarrivals@suu.edu for off-campus housing options.
  • Homestay - Want the experience of living with a local Cedar City family?
  • Update your arrival information form on your portal after reserving plane tickets or housing

International Orientation & Thunder U

• Incoming international students are required to attend International Orientation and Thunder U.
• No registration is required
• Intensive English Program (IEP) Students are not required to attend.

Travel Arrangements

• Reserve a seat on our free shuttle from the following airports on the specific date provided

  • Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (first sessions only)
  • St. George Regional Airport
  • Cedar City Regional Airport
• Students need to arrive at the airport before 6:00PM (18:00) in order to use our shuttle service.
• Register for a shuttle.
• If that time does not work, contact us at internationalarrivals@suu.edu for alternate options.
• Update your arrival information form on your portal after reserving plane tickets or housing

Health Insurance and Medical Care

• As an international student, you are required by the U.S. government to 
  1. have an active health insurance policy
  2. have two doses of the MMR vaccine (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella)
  3. be tested for tuberculosis (TB) or show proof of vaccination against TB
• All immunizations MUST be done 30 days prior to your arrival.
• You MUST have an insurance policy within 30 days after your arrival.
• SUU recommends International Student Insurance as an insurance provider.
• Upload all your documents to our Secure File Inbox.

Second Session

• Shuttle - February 27th (IEP students only)
• IEP Placement - February 28-29th
• First Day of Class - March 4th
• International Orientation - March 4th
