Applying for Graduate Admission

Begin by exploring Southern Utah University’s Graduate Program page to choose an area of study. Requirements and deadlines are specific to each program. 

After choosing a program of study, the next step is to submit your graduate application. When completing the application process, applicants should begin to prepare application materials, such as official transcripts, reference information, and resume. Application materials are specific to each program.

Eligibility

Thank you for your interest in Southern Utah University’s Graduate Studies. We welcome applicants who hold a U.S. baccalaureate or an equivalent international degree from an accredited institution. 

Graduate Application Steps

  • Begin your application
    • Southern Utah University’s Office of Graduate Admissions processes applications for admission. Prospective students can navigate their application portal to submit, review, or make changes to their online application.

  • Choose a Graduate Program/Endorsement or License and Submit Application Materials
    • Most additional materials can be uploaded within the online application or may be emailed to gradapps@suu.edu. Official transcripts may be sent electronically through the National Student Clearinghouse, Parchment, E-Script or through your university. Be sure to list the email for Southern Utah University as gradapps@suu.edu.
  • Complete the Online Application
    • Complete the online application which includes submitting a $60 non-refundable application fee electronically found here
    • Make sure you fully submit your online application by clicking the submit button.
  • Review Application Status
    • Once your application has been fully submitted, wait one full business day before logging into your MySUU Portal at suu.edu to see if all your application materials have been received. Be sure to contact the Office of Graduate Admissions at gradapps@suu.edu or435-865-8297 if you believe something has been received but is not marked as received on your application. 

Your MySUU Portal is an official means to communicate to all students about important deadlines, campus events and as a means to conduct transactions such as notification of financial aid awards and transmission of tuition statements.  You must check your account frequently in order to keep informed of pertinent deadlines and information that may affect you. 

SUU Graduate Studies offers the following types of graduate admission:

Graduate degree admission is for candidates seeking to complete a Certificate, Endorsement, Licensure or Master’s program.

 Non-degree seeking admission is a graduate status allowing students to receive graduate credit for course work but who have not been formally admitted to a graduate degree program.

  • Graduate non-degree credits
    • Up to six non-degree seeking graduate credits within one semester are allowed with the approval of the program director. Acceptance as a graduate non-degree seeking student does not imply future admission to a degree program.
  • Financial Aid
    • Applicants admitted as graduate non-degree seeking students are NOT ELIGIBLE for financial aid. Graduate non-degree seeking students are assessed the graduate-level tuition and fees at the master’s level rate for all credits taken.
  • Academic Eligibility
    • Applicants must have earned a baccalaureate degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited college or university prior to enrollment as a graduate non-degree seeking student.
  • How to Apply
    • Apply online ($60 Application fee is non-refundable). Applicants only need to submit the application, fee, and transcripts (unofficial/official) showing baccalaureate degree earned.

To be granted full admission, applicants must hold the equivalent of a U.S. baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution. Additional Graduate Student Admission Requirements are located here.

Students who are seeking readmission to graduate programs after an approved Step Out or who did not maintain continuous registration.

  • You are returning after an approved Step Out
    • You will be readmitted after completing the Step Out form. You will not be required to pay the $15 readmission fee. 
  • You have not maintained continuous registration
    • If you have been out of school for more than three semesters (one calendar year), you must apply for admission as a returning student and pay the $15 readmission fee. 

Helpful Instructions and Information

One of the most important steps in completing your application is ordering all of your official transcripts to make sure SUU receives them right away. Any delay could cause you to miss out on your desired start date, so order your transcripts today!

To order your transcripts, simply follow these steps:

  1. Begin with a list of all educational institutions for which you need official transcripts.
  2. Search for those schools using transcript ordering service provider links, below.
    1. National Clearing House: http://www.studentclearinghouse.org/
    2. Parchment: http://www.parchment.com/order/
    3. Credentials Solutions: http://www.transcriptsplus.net/order
      1. Please note: If your school is not listed with an electronic transcript service, you will need to contact that institution directly to order transcripts. Most schools offer online transcript ordering via their websites.
  3. You will need to create an account with the transcript ordering service provider once you have found your school(s) as listed above.
  4. Select Southern Utah University as the destination for your transcripts.
  5. Place your order for delivery electronically, or by mail:

  1. You will need to pay for your order using a major credit or debit card. You may also need to provide consent (e-signature) and an email account for verification of the order and tracking notifications.
  2. Using your account, you will be able to log in to check the status of your completed order at any time.

Creating your Application Account:

  1. Click the “Apply Now” button and choose the term you wish to attend.
  2. Create your account by filling out the “Create Account” information on the right-hand side of the screen. Please write down your username and password, you will need it later.
  3. Verify your account by clicking on link provided in your email (be sure to check your spam folder if needed.)

Logging into your Application Account:

  1. Access your account by clicking here

  1. From the drop-down, choose your intended program and review the application requirements, then click on “Next”.
  2. Complete the Personal Information section and click on “Next”.
  3. Complete the Education section and click on “Next”.
  4. Complete the Application Information section and click on “Next”.
  5. Review the Information on this section and click “Next”.
  6. A Form Summary box appears to let you know that your application was successfully saved. Hang in there, you are almost finished. Please click “Continue”.
  7. Attach the necessary documents to your application and click “Submit Application”.
    1. If your documents are not ready to attach, please click “Submit Application” and you can either log back into your application at a later date (step 4) to upload them or you may email them to gradapps@suu.edu when they are ready.

Once your application is submitted, you will be prompted to pay the $60 non-refundable application fee which can be found here.

Student Loans

Student loans are administered through the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships and are based on demonstrated financial need. The Financial Aid office provides information and assistance to prospective, new and enrolled graduate students.

Nondegree seeking students, licensure programs and endorsements are not financial aid eligible.

Federal Pell Grants

Federal Pell Grants are not eligible for students at the graduate or non-degree seeking level.
